Carol Smillie poses outside the Dream Holiday Homes Cave House
In the summer of 2003 Galera became the spotlight of Channel 5's Dream Holiday Homes when Carol Smillie and her production team arrived to show their audience how to convert a ruin to a delightful cave home in five days.

Of course the process of converting a hole in the ground into a comfortable cave home full of character and charm took a little longer than 5 days.
The process started with Channel 5's researchers approaching Spanish Inland Properties and the owners and builders with the object of finding the right property at the right price. Within a short time an unreformed cave house at the head of a valley in the picturesque village of Galera was selected and purchased ready for filming the programme.
Spanish Inland Properties provided local support, arranging translation services, accommodation and food. Craig was also featured in the programme guiding Carol around the village of Galera on a sunny market day.
The Channel 5 team's visit worked hard during their stay but they also had time for fun as some of the pictures below show.
