***AN AMAZING LARGE COUNTRY ESTATE***
A fifteen minute drive from the sleepy village of Larva through rolling countryside takes you to this little hamlet based around the mansion and we use the term not simply for the house but for the amount of dwellings included in this sale.
The main property was built by the owners father in the early 1900's and it's antebellum architecture makes us wonder if the gentleman had visited the deep South because this is a true plantation house in the middle of Jaen.
Details are sketchy but when you consider that there's the main house, a very large cortijo (in ruins), 12 enormous workshops/stables/warehouses, 26 cave houses (for reform), 122 hectares of land (42 hectares are planted with almond trees) and a folly - What was it all used for? In it's hey day we do know that the estate provided work for over 700 staff.
The main house in itself is stunning although in need of external re decoration and the ground floor has been used for storage but provides five large rooms.
The first is a reception room, opposite that is the old scullery with a double stone sink and open fireplace. The third a bedroom and fourth would be a good room to divide into a utility area and bathroom. The fifth could be another bedrom if required.
The first floor is immaculate and we felt as though we'd stepped back in time to the 1950's.
The period furniture, bric a brac, paintings, everywhere you look there are references to that time and it's all included in the sale (personal items will be removed).
There's a good sized landing used as a reception room, a kitchen, dining room and three bedrooms all of which have wash hand basins. There isn't a bathroom installed in the property so the kitchen would be the perfect room to change the use of.
Stairs again then take you to the large roof terrace with incredible views and there's even a smaller terrace up a further flight of stairs.
Outside the house there's a small courtyard (servants entrance) where the washing would be done using water from the massive underfloor deposit which gathers rain water and can be accessed via a well.
To the front of the property is a grand entrance with marble pillars and a palm tree.
The beautiful walled garden would have been used to grow fruit and vegetables for the household and is intact.
The workshops are mostly empty but there are two wooden horse drawn carts, a small tractor and various farming items. These buildings are weather proof and would make fantastic stables.
On another part of the estate across the railway line there's a very large ruined cortijo probably where the estate manager and house servants lived very comfortably.
Beyond the cortijo and dug into the side of the small valley are a row of cave homes, each one identical to the next, a room with a fireplace and two or three more rooms. At the end of the row there's a large square with again, identical cave dwellings looking out on to the 'cave plaza'. This was the entertaiment area for the agricultural workers, a gathering place after a hard day tending the land.
You get the distinct feeling that who ever the gentlman was that created this incredible estate he was certainly a good man who appreciated his staff and looked after them. These cave dwellings aren't shelters for the masses they are little homes, cosy in the Winter and cool in the Summer with space for a family.
Even the night watchman had comfortable shelter in the 'folly'as he watched over the 120 hectares.
This isn't simply a country estate for sale this is a piece of history that hundreds have been involved in creating - It's a magical place and opportunity.
We have a very large photo file available for this property.
