It was when Richard and Sharon Crook sold their apartment on the Costa del Sol to escape the growing crowds that they started to research inland cave properties in Spain. By December 2005, the Crooks were starting the process of restoring their own cave home in the pretty Andalusian village of Galera.

“We love the whole feel of the cave houses and the individuality of the property. They represent excellent value for money too. Not at all like the urbanised box like dwellings that you get on the coast. Cool in summer, cosy in winter and a wonderful blissful night’s sleep. So peaceful,” Richard adds.

It is this that has made the Preston couple look towards spending more time in Galera; Richard has recently taken early retirement from his job in IT and with Sharon working part time as an air stewardess, the Crooks are shortly to move onto their newly built narrow boat splitting their between the two countries and their two new and unique homes.
