After visiting friends in 2004, the Lee family from Luton were so taken with Galera they bought their own holiday cave home. Now just two years later, they are looking for a bigger property with plans to make cave living more permanent.

It was when Mick and Irene Lee, with their two children, Ryan (now 16) and Mellissa (now 12) visited friends they first met on holiday - that they were introduced to Galera and Spanish Inland Properties. Living in the near by village of Los Olivos, their friends showed the family the area and when they decided that they too wanted to buy a property nearby, they instantly recommended Spanish Inland Properties.

After finding the cave home they wanted, already renovated and modernised, the Lees just needed some extra space; through Spanish Inland Properties they simply arranged for the local builders to dig out and extend the second bedroom from a single to a double, in the true traditions of cave living! Their holiday home was then complete.

It certainly seems to be a trend that people visiting Galera end up buying a cave home of their own. Mick explains: “My brother was on holiday at the coast at the same time we were at the cave so he came over to see it. They stayed one night with us and liked what they saw so much they bought the one below the next day!”

Two years on from purchasing their cave home (named Cueva Lee), the Bedfordshire family have their holiday home back on the market with Spanish Inland Properties as they look for a larger cave with a view to being in Galera more permanently.

“When people ask us about cave houses we just tell them to try it. It’s not like anything you could imagine. Mick and Irene Lee bought their cave home in 2004 for 60,320 euros and are now selling the 2 double bedroom property through Spanish Inland Properties.
