Ecological Cave Houses
Working with the area's best and most experienced cave house developers "Cuevas y Cortijos Andaluces", Spanish Inland Properties S.L. are in now able to offer ecological cave houses and eco building services.
Modern cave houses already make a significant ecological contribution because:
- They are developed from existing derelict properties thereby minimising the amount of new building materials that are required.
- Where ever possible recycled building materials are utilised, as examples reclaimed wooden beams are used for support or decoration and reclaimed roof tiles are reused.
- Windows and doors are made from fast growing pine.
- The cave rooms, because they are built into the rock, have excellent thermal insulation properties. Cave houses were the first houses heated and cooled by geothermal heat sources.
- They are unobtrusive and blend with the landscape.
We are now able to offer a range of eco-cave houses built to cient specification. The properties can be either on or off the grid and may contain some or all the eco-components outlined in the following pages. Alternatively if you have a property in the north Granada area (Baza, Maria, Huescar, Castril and Pozo Alcon) and require the services of specialist eco-builder contact us via the form below.
Guidline prices for completed properties are a) two bed 110 to 150,000 Euros, b) three bed 125 to 180,000 Euros. The prices are dependent on the amount of external build, whether one or two storeys, whether connected to the mains electrical grid or not and various other factors. Fixed price, fixed term contracts are always agreed between the builder and buyer prior to sale of the property. All significant changes are covered by written signed variation orders so there are no surprises at the end of the job.
Off the Grid
There are cave houses dotted around the Granada countryside that are simply too far away from the nearest electrical supply to make connection to the mains economically viable. Some of the ways of providing electrical power to these properties are:
- Solar photovoltaic panels
- Wind turbine generation.
- Diesel or biofuel generators or
- A combination of the above.
Because connection to mains electric is not practical, these properties, in their undeveloped state, are available at prices considerably lower than cave houses closer to villages and towns. Often they are in stunning locations. Grants, subject to conditions, are available from the Junta de Andalucia for solar power installations.
Due to their low initial cost one of our aims is to build ecological cave houses usint solar energy at a final price that is equal or close to cave houses hooked up to the national electrical grid.
